Lena Kitzing is Professor of Renewable Energy Economics and Policy and Head of the Wind Energy Systems Division at the Technical University of Denmark, and part-time Professor at the Florence School of Regulation, European University Institute.

She is a member of the European Scientific Advisory Board on Climate Change, with a mandate by the European Climate Law to advise European policymakers and stakeholders on climate and energy related decisions (Climate-advisory-board.europa.eu). She is external Associate Researcher in the Energy Policy Research Group (EPRG) at the University of Cambridge. She is Vice President of the Danish Association of Energy Economics. Previous roles include a membership in the management board of the European Energy Research Alliance, joint programme on Wind Energy.

Her research interest is in energy economics and concerns the effective governance of energy systems through policy instruments. She focuses in particular on deployment and financing of renewable energies and their integration into the energy system. This comprises renewable support policy design, including e.g. auctions and contracts for difference, financial analysis of energy assets with focus on investment and risk, stochastic cash flow modelling, portfolio analysis, dynamic energy transition processes.

She has 15+ years teaching experience at Bachelor, Master and PhD level from five different universities, performs reviews for top journals in her field, supervises and evaluates PhD students at leading universities, and develops energy research agendas across disciplines. She has advised the European Commission, the Danish Energy Agency, the German Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency, ACER, ENTSO-E, the International Energy Agency, and a number of energy companies.
